Conference on “The Irish in Massachusetts: Historical Significance, Lasting Legacy,” September 24-26, 2014
Working with Queen’s University Belfast and the University of Massachusetts at Lowell, BM & A is serving as a conference organizer on the topic of the historic role and impact of the Irish in Massachusetts.
The two institutions maintain close ties. Queen’s University has sponsored an archeological excavation at the site of St. Patrick’s in the Acre section of Lowell, Massachusetts over the past several years. The Acre is the historic home to the first Irish who first settled in the rapidly developing planned industrial city.
The conference will bring Irish and American scholars together over three days, with noted speakers to discuss the role that the Irish played. It is likely that the conference proceedings will be published. The public will be invited to attend the conference sessions and panels.
